The role of Agriculture Marketing is crucial in post harvest technology of agriculture production. In the absence of remunerative prices of the producers, agriculture production gets a setback. In view of this, the State Government acknowledged the importance of regulated markets so as to ensure fair return to the farmer. The Agriculture Marketing system needs to be strengthened, along with the measures for boosting the agriculture production so that the farmers may get reasonable price without delay and unauthorised deduction, of his produce. Efforts should be made to minimise the gap between the price received by the farmer for his produced and the cost paid by the consumer.

To achieve above objectives the Government promulgated Rajasthan Agriculture Produce Market Act in the year 1961 which came into force in the year 1964.

Establishment of the Board & its Construction: 

The state govt. constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of Shri Yashwant Singh Nahar in the year 1967. The committee recommended for the establishment
of an autonomous body (Board) in the state for the overall development of the KUMS, like other states. Therefore on the recommendation of this committee, the
Government of Rajasthan amended the Rajasthan Agriculture Marketing act 1961 on 14.07.1973 and Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board was constituted vide
Govt. order No. 1(6)(5) dated 06.06.1974.

Initially the provision of 24 member in the Board was kept. Out of which 10 members were among the Chairmen of Marketing Committees, 2 representatives were from the license holder traders of marketing committees, 2 public representative, 1 economist, officers of agriculture base department/autonomous bodies and the secretary agriculture marketing board was the Ex-officio secretary. When the Directorate of Agriculture Marketing came into existence, the Director Agriculture Marketing also became the member of the board, increasing the number of members to 25.

The first Board was constituted by nomination of members on June 6, 1974 under the Chairmanship of Shri Yashwant Singh Nahar. This board was dissolved by the State Government on 09.01.1978 and the Administrator was appointed in the board. Thereafter again board was constituted on 05.12.1978 under the Chairmanship of Shri Prithvi Singh Devra which was dissolved on 09.05.1980. Since then to present the officers of Indian Administrative services are being appointed as the Administrator of Board.

On the recommendation of National Agricultural Commission, like other state, the Directorate of Agriculture Marketing was established in 1980. The Functions of DAM are to implement Rajasthan Agricultural Marketing Produce Regulation Act and thereby regulation of all KUMS, grading & agmark, market intelligence, land acquisition, budget allocation and administrative work of all KUMS.

The works related to infrastructure development in mandi area, training to farmers/officers and improvement in marketing system are done by RSAMB.
