Environment Management

The World Bank funded projects and activities are governed by Operational Policies, which are designed to ensure that the projects are economically, financially, socially and environmentally sound. As a prerequisite for RACP, a comprehensive Integrated Environmental and Social Assessment (IESA) study was undertaken to identify possible adverse and positive environmental as well as social impacts. The major outcome of the IESA is the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) which is a decision making tool to ensure that project design and implementation is socially responsive and environmentally sound.

The overall assessment of the RACP intervention proposals in terms of environmental and social considerations is positive. The assessment shows that while there is very low risk of negative environmental and social impacts, there are high positive social impacts and opportunities to enhance the environmental performance through the project.
